Volleyball Tournament in Estero, Mexico

Earlier in the spring my friend Nichole invited me down for a huge volleyball tournament in Estero, Mexico. The tournament has over a thousand participants and is just one huge party! I flew down to LA and we took a chartered bus down to Mexico with a big group of volleyball players from the Manhattan Beach and Hermosa beach areas. The bus was loaded with a keg, jell-o shots and some weird shot called "surfer on acid" (I have no clue what was in that) . We partied down to Mexico and stoped at Papa's&Beer in Encinada before going further south to Estero.

Once we got there it was one big dancing/drinking/eating fest. At night there was a large dance area with a DJ that was packed with hundreds and hundreds of volleyballers till the wee hours of the morning. During the day the beach was packed with over 100 volleyball courts and tons of people trying to play through hangovers.

The tournament rules are that you get paired up with a random person. They try to pair bad people up with good and visa-versa to keep things competitive. You are in a pool of 5 teams and the first day is pool play. If you finish in the top 2 of your pool, you advance to the second day of play on Sunday (playoffs). My partner was a guy named Jason from Arizona. We played pretty well together after a rough start and ended up winning our pool! Sunday was a little tougher and we lost in the second round of the playoffs, but really had a bitchin time. Here are some of the pictures of us in action...

Here is me serving during pool play on Saturday.

This is me spiking during warm-ups.

Really cool panoramic shot of the beach from the lifeguard tower.
